BOOK EIGHT PT 1 & 2

Sheriff Roy Barker could see this young man meant business and would keep on pressing for answers to his questions.  This kid had the confidence and control of a statesman - or worse a gunman.  His hands were too clean for a wrangler.  No scars, scratches, or rope burns.  The only tell-tale signs was that this kid was in a good fight recently.  This man did not labor for a living, whatever the living was at this time, surmised the sheriff.  "Smokey's in jail because he doesn't have one hundred dollars to pay the damages to Silver's gaming hall, and he's to stand trial for murder."
